Tasks can be inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and modeling data with the goal of discovering useful information, informing conclusions, and supporting decision-making. Whether it’s healthcare, energy, or even supply chain management, data analysts are the Sherlock Holmes of numbers.
Information Systems focus on the computer systems within a company to ensure the organizational goals are accomplished. You’re the tech wizard behind the scenes, ensuring systems run smoothly. From market leaders to small startups, you’re the magician making organizational goals happen. Information Technology can be divided into hardware, software, or the internet.
There is no specific hiring cycle for analytics positions. Employers recruit for data analytics positions all year.
Key hiring months in information technology are generally September through January for internship and full-time opportunities.
There are a variety of pipeline programs available at financial services firms, as well as technology companies. Some programs include:

- Google’s BOLD Program
International Students: STEM and technology are by far the most popular roles/industries for international students in the US. Many companies, especially large companies, will be eager to start the recruitment process as early as possible as they often have long hiring processes with multiple, complex interviews for each position. Peak recruitment: August – March. Data analysts roles really pick up starting in the Spring and throughout the summer, but depend on the industries. See more on Interstride
Graduate Students: Internships are a great place to start and there are many kinds of analyst or tech roles available. Start looking into your main industries or by type of role you want to data to analyze. Hiring for full-time is similar to above.
MBAs: Hiring timeline for full-time roles start mid-August with postings and offers from internships. MBA internships open in September with conferences and events by employers along with online postings. For jobs or internships openings tend to be by function and industry starting with: human resources, banking, consulting, big tech and healthcare, and the rest of energy, transportation & logistics, entertainment, consumer goods, retail/luxury goods, social impact, manufacturing and agribusiness.
Terms to use when searching for an internship or job: data, consulting, analyst. In addition, you may search for popular software programs that will appear in job descriptions, such as Cognos, SAS, and Tableau.
Analytics: machine learning, statistical analysis, data science, data mining, business analytics, predictive analytics, statistical modeling, research analyst, and quantitative modeling.
Information technology: information technology, digital strategy, data engineer, and software engineer, project management, product management
