Marketing involves the process of producing, pricing, communicating, and delivering offerings of value that encompass branding, advertising, digital, research, and more.

There are two main paths to take in marketing: in-house and agency.

Agency

Advertising agencies establish and maintain the relationship between the companies, customers, and products, as well as create effective campaigns. Marketing and advertising professionals may work in full-service agencies (which incorporates marketing strategy development, ad creation, media planning and buying, account planning and research), and production or boutiques. Working at an agency means you can work on a variety of brands at once.

In-House

In-house is when the marketing activities are handled internally by a marketing department of a company. Working in-house means you work solely on one brand. Advertising establishes and maintains the relationships between the companies, customers, and products, as well as creates effective campaigns. Marketing and advertising professionals may work in full-service agencies (which incorporates marketing strategy development, ad creation, media planning and buying, account planning and research, and production or boutiques. Skills employers seek are creativity, problem-solving, analytical, and communication. The programs provide students with a thorough understanding of key marketing concepts such as target market selection, position, new product/service development, distribution strategies, pricing strategies, and promotion strategies.

Key hiring months (both internships and full-time jobs) for this industry are generally November through February, however, some opportunities may appear as late as June in the hiring cycle. Most agencies hire on a rolling basis, meaning they hope to hire employees who can start working immediately.
