Which sections to use, how to beat the ATS?
AI can help you understand a job description, identify keywords, strengthen bullet wording, and tailor your materials. It should not invent accomplishments, inflate metrics, or make your résumé sound like someone else wrote it. Treat AI suggestions as a draft, then verify every detail and revise the final version in your own voice.
Safe prompts students can use:
- “Review this résumé bullet for clarity and action-oriented language. Do not add results or metrics I did not provide.”
- “Compare this job description with my résumé and identify skills or keywords I should consider highlighting if they are accurate.”
- “Help me rewrite this experience for a business audience while preserving the original meaning.”
- “Suggest questions I should answer before tailoring my cover letter to this role.”
Before you submit:
- every role, date, skill, and accomplishment is accurate
- numbers and outcomes can be explained in an interview
- keywords match your real experience
- formatting is readable and ATS-friendly
- the tone still sounds like you
